A bilingual French-German emblem book printed by Jacob Koppmayer in Augsburg in 1690, in which Johann Ulrich and Johanna Sybylla Krauss engraved André Félibien's account of the Gobelins tapestries of the four elements and four seasons made for Louis XIV, after designs by Sébastien Le Clerc, for court readers and print collectors. The engravings work as ornamental frames: strapwork cartouches carrying small landscape vignettes, hung with grape clusters, wheat, shells and hunting gear, and inset panels of calligraphic display lettering that can be lifted as borders, medallions, or harvest and seasonal motifs.
