Tatting and netting
A needlework instruction manual on tatting and netting issued by the Butterick Publishing Company in London and New York in 1895 for home lacemakers working from printed patterns. Halftones show finished lace edgings, medallions and knotted nets photographed white on black, giving designers high-contrast repeating motifs, looped borders and open mesh textures usable as ornament or pattern fills.
