Teatro d'imprese
Giovanni Ferro's Teatro d'imprese is an Italian emblem encyclopedia printed in Venice by Giacomo Sarzina in 1623, compiled for courtiers, heralds and scholars who devised personal devices and mottoes. Its 792 plates run from square woodcut initials filled with vine scrolls and hatched foliage to hundreds of emblem devices, supplying designers with letterforms, ornament borders and symbolic motifs in coarse black line.
