Teutonic mythology
Jacob Grimm's Deutsche Mythologie in James Steven Stallybrass's English translation, issued in London by W. Swan Sonnenschein & Allen in 1880 for scholars of Germanic and Norse religion, magic, and naming. The illustration material is typographic ornament rather than subject plates: a line-drawn tailpiece pairing a winged petasos and serpent-twined caduceus with symmetrical acanthus scrolls and ivy leaves, usable as a section divider, colophon mark, or centred title-page device.
