Textiles
A 1916 textile manual by Paul H. Nystrom, prepared with the University of Wisconsin extension division and published by D. Appleton for merchandising students and retail salespeople learning to identify cloth. The plates are halftone photographs of small woven swatches with frayed edges, showing twill diagonals, checks, ribs and pile in high-contrast black and grey, usable as ready-made repeating patterns, grain textures and halftone fills.
