The Field Book, 1833
An 1833 London encyclopedia of British field sports and country amusements compiled by the Irish novelist William Hamilton Maxwell for hunting, shooting and fishing gentlemen. Small wood engravings place single birds uff a hooded crow, a swan uff in reeded water margins, built from dense parallel hatching that renders plumage, rippled water and grass tufts as usable stock vignettes or spot illustrations.
