Theatrum vitae humanæ.
An emblem book of moral exempla by Jean Jacques Boissard, engraved and published by Theodor de Bry and printed by Abraham Faber at Metz in 1596 for learned readers of Latin verse on the conduct of life. The small square copperplate scenes set figures in antique armour, robes and crowns against colonnades, coffered arches and statue niches, with fires, executions and distant landscapes glimpsed through openings; useful for classical architectural framing, close-packed figure groups and fine-line hatching at miniature scale.
