Boldoni, Ottavio, Bp. of Teano, 1600-1680, Bianchi, Giovanni Paolo, engr · 1635 · Mediolani, Apud hær. q. P. Pontij, Typis Archiepisc. · 86 pictures

An emblem book of 1635 printed in Milan at the archiepiscopal press for Cardinal Cesare Monti, written by Ottavio Boldoni and engraved throughout by Giovanni Paolo Bianchi. Each plate sets a small allegorical figure on a plinth inside a grotesque architectural frame of acanthus scrolls, hanging lamps, mascarons, winged putti, satyrs and rearing beasts, giving designers repeatable border units, cartouche bases and symmetrical ornament fields.
