Thoughts on some important points relating to the System of the world

Nichol, John Pringle, 1804-1859 · 1846 · Edinburgh, Tait · 1 picture

John Pringle Nichol, professor of astronomy at Glasgow, wrote this popular account of nebulae, gravitation and the solar system, published by Tait in Edinburgh in 1846 for general readers following Lord Rosse's new telescope discoveries. The plates are dark mezzotint-style views of spiral nebulae and star fields, white and grey scratched light on solid black grounds, useful for high-contrast cosmic textures, swirling forms and scattered star speckle.
