Théâtre des marionnettes; texte et composition des dessins
Edmond Duranty's Théâtre des marionnettes, published in Paris by G. Charpentier in 1880, collects his puppet-play texts with his own drawn compositions, aimed at readers of the Tuileries garden puppet booth. The hand-coloured plates stack stage scenes in tiers framed by red curtains and proscenium columns, giving designers Punch-like grotesque faces, uniformed soldiers, crowd rows and theatrical border devices.
