Titian : his life and times with some account of his family, chiefly from new and unpublished records
A two-volume documentary biography of Titian by Joseph Archer Crowe and Giovanni Battista Cavalcaselle, published by John Murray in London in 1877 for collectors, curators and students of Venetian painting. The plates are line reproductions after Titian's paintings, woodcuts and drawings — mythological groups in woodland, the Crowning with Thorns, reclining nudes, a cavalry battle at a bridge — rendered in dense crosshatching that holds up well when enlarged or cropped.
