Antoine Lavoisier's 1789 chemistry textbook, published in Paris by Cuchet and aimed at students and working chemists, setting out the oxygen theory and a new nomenclature. The plates, engraved after drawings by Marie-Anne Paulze Lavoisier, are fine-line diagrams of laboratory apparatus—retorts, gasometers, pneumatic troughs on plank benches—with letter keys and "Fig." labels, useful as clean instrument silhouettes and hatched technical linework.
