Traitté de la peintvre
The first French translation of Leonardo da Vinci's treatise on painting, made by Roland Fréart de Chambray and printed in Paris by Jacques Langlois in 1651 for painters, architects and court readers. Its plates are line-engraved geometry lessons — light rays from a sun or lamp, shadow cones, arcs and lettered points on bare walls and floors — each set in a rectangular panel inside a beaded, laurel-wrapped border that can be lifted as a frame on its own.
