Romano Alberti's 1585 treatise arguing the nobility of painting, printed in Rome by Francesco Zannetti for the Accademia di San Luca and its painters' guild. Illustration is confined to letterpress ornament: woodcut initials with grotesque masks and scrollwork, foliate tailpieces, and lozenge-shaped arabesque devices, usable as small stock ornaments, drop caps, and section dividers.
