A treatise on painting compiled by Francesco Domenico Bisagno from the opinions of earlier masters, printed in Venice by the Giunti press in 1642 for painters and students of the art. The pictures here are letterpress ornament rather than plates: woodcut headpieces and tailpieces built from scrolling acanthus, bearded grotesque masks in cartouches, and inhabited initials, all coarse black line on laid paper, useful as period borders, spot ornaments and drop caps.
