The travels of Théophile Gautier
An English-language edition of Théophile Gautier's travel writings, translated and edited by Frederick C. de Sumichrast and issued in Boston by Little, Brown in 1912 for American general readers. Illustrations are coarse-screen halftone photographs of European streets and monuments — a domed church above a crowded square, a rusticated arcaded palace, a harnessed carriage horse — with heavy grain and sepia and grey-black tonal range.
