The travels of Théophile Gautier
A volume from the collected travel writings of Théophile Gautier, translated and edited by Frederick C. de Sumichrast for Little, Brown of Boston in 1912, covering the painting galleries of the Louvre for English-speaking readers. The plates are soft-grained halftone reproductions of Old Master paintings: the Mona Lisa, an oval Rembrandt self-portrait in fur cap, and a Baroque vision crowded with cherubs.
