Robert Gibson's textbook on practical surveying, printed by Joseph Crukshank in Philadelphia in 1789 for land surveyors and students of mathematics. The folding plates hold engraved geometry: numbered figures of triangles, traverses and field plots drawn in fine line with dotted offsets, lettered vertices and north-south baselines, usable as diagram line work or plate layouts.
