Treatise on the art of knitting, with a history of the knitting loom: comprising an interesting account of its origin, and of its recent wonderful improvements

Aiken, Jonas B · 1861 · Franklin, N.H., Pub. by the inventor · 3 pictures

A short technical treatise of 1861 on hand and machine knitting, issued by the inventor Jonas B. Aiken at Franklin, New Hampshire, to explain and sell his knitting loom to domestic and small-shop knitters. The images indexed here are the digitizing library's endpaper stock rather than the text plates: a repeating diamond lattice of the eagle-and-shield seal ringed by the words THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS, printed pale tan on cream, usable as a seamless tiling ground, watermark motif, or crest roundel.
