A treatise on the decorative part of civil architecture
An architectural treatise by Sir William Chambers, first issued in 1759 and reissued in this 1825 London edition edited by Joseph Gwilt, addressed to architects, builders and students learning the classical orders. The plates are fine outline engravings of columns, capitals, entablatures and mouldings, drawn to scale with measurement rules, module figures and section details, giving designers clean linear profiles, Ionic volutes, acanthus capitals and repeating ornament bands.
