A treatise on the decorative part of civil architecture
Sir William Chambers's manual of classical architectural ornament, first issued in 1759 and reissued in this 1825 London edition edited by Joseph Gwilt, for architects and builders learning the orders. Engraved plates give elevations, plans and sections of doorways, arcades, rusticated walls and columns, numbered and captioned, in fine line with flat grey wash shadows—usable as outline ornament, geometric pattern and diagram framing.
