A treatise on heraldry, British and foreign : with English and French glossaries
A two-volume reference manual of British and Continental heraldry by the Scottish antiquary and clergyman John Woodward, published in Edinburgh and London in 1896 for armorists, genealogists and students of blazon, with glossaries in English and French. The plates are chromolithographed shields showing quartered and marshalled arms in red, sky blue, ochre and grey: rampant lions, fleurs-de-lis, crosses potent, checky borders and bendy fields, useful as flat colour emblems, crest motifs and pattern fills.
