A trip to the moon
A satirical lunar voyage published pseudonymously as "Murtagh McDermot" in Dublin and reprinted in London in 1728, aimed at readers of Swiftian travel burlesque and utopian fiction. Its pictures are woodcut factotum initials, square blocks with a blank centre panel holding a single letter, framed by acanthus scrolls, shells, palm fronds, an obelisk, a spread eagle and a grinning grotesque mask, useful as drop-cap frames or small ornamental cartouches.
