Two centuries of costume in America, MDCXX-MDCCCXX
A two-volume survey of American dress from 1620 to 1820 by antiquarian Alice Morse Earle, published by Macmillan in 1903 for collectors and general readers. Halftone reproductions of portraits, miniatures, and surviving garments show caps, bonnets, ruffled fichus, printed gowns and profile silhouettes—useful for period costume reference, oval and circular vignette framing, and soft-grained portrait textures.
