Two lectures on comets

Winthrop, John, 1714-1779, Oliver, A. (Andrew), 1731-1799 · 1811 · Boston : W. Wells and T.B. Wait and Co. · 1 picture

Two popular astronomy lectures on comets by Harvard professor John Winthrop, issued with an essay by Andrew Oliver and reprinted in Boston in 1811 for New England readers and students. The single plate is a lettered engraved diagram: a large circle ringed with fine stipple, a labelled sun and orbit line, and a comet head trailing hatched tail lines—usable as line-engraved scientific figure, arrow, and orbit motifs.
