Über die Malerei der Alten : ein Beitrag zur Geschichte der Kunst
Andreas Riem's 1787 German study of ancient painting, published in Berlin by Friedrich Maurer with plates after Bernhard Rode, written for antiquarians and artists of the late Enlightenment. Sparse outline etchings record classical statues and objects: a draped woman holding a lyre, a winged Victory with raised arms, a tripod stand supported by sphinxes, all usable as clean figure silhouettes and drapery studies.
