Ueber den Humor bei den deutschen Kupferstechern und Holzschnittkunstlern des 16. Jahrhunderts
An art-historical monograph by Reinhold von Lichtenberg on humour in German engravings and woodcuts of the sixteenth century, published by Heitz in Strassburg in 1897 for scholars and print collectors. The plates reproduce line work by Aldegrever, Virgil Solis, Hans Sebald Beham and unnamed hands: wedding dancers, acrobats and jugglers, lions and beasts massed in a wooded landscape, and crowded cavalry melees, all hatched black-on-white with German captions beneath.
