Uitbreiding, over hondred leerzaame zinnebeelden
A Dutch emblem book of 1722, Claas Bruin's verse commentary on a hundred moral devices, printed in Amsterdam by Henrik Bosch with copperplates by Adolf van der Laan and Jacobus Schijnvoet for pious lay readers. Each plate is a small circular medallion holding a landscape, plant or object, banded by a Latin motto in Roman capitals and enclosed in a plain ruled ring, giving designers ready-made roundel devices, hatched skies and sun-ray motifs.
