Une ville flottante
Jules Verne's transatlantic novel of a crossing aboard the Great Eastern, issued by J. Hetzel in Paris in 1870 for general French readers, with wood engravings after Jules Férat and companion adventure episodes. Plates show tilted steamer decks with rigging and passenger crowds, bodies heaped at a stone barricade, riflemen in a rock defile, and a moonlit vignette framed by monkeys, tiger and reeds.
