KANDINSKY KLANGE
Klänge (Sounds), Wassily Kandinsky's album of prose poems paired with his own woodcuts, first issued by R. Piper in Munich in 1913 and reprinted here in facsimile by Stamperia Artistica Nazionale at Trofarello, made for collectors of artists' books. The prints run from stark black-and-white cuts of hill towns, riders and massed figures to color sheets in blue, orange, olive and red, offering high-contrast silhouette shapes, flat unmodelled color fields and loose gouged line for poster work, covers and pattern.
