Uranography and practical astronomy, designed for private students
A self-instruction manual on uranography and practical astronomy by L. Lillard, printed at Rees' book and job office in Keokuk, Iowa, in 1866 for private students working without a teacher. The plates are white line diagrams reversed out of dense black stippled skies: orbital ellipses with lettered points, a rayed sun ringed by planet dots, a satellite circling Jupiter, usable as negative-space astronomical figures and sources of coarse printed grain.
