The use of compressed air for pumping water
An 1900 engineering thesis by George Russell Smith on compressed-air water pumping, submitted at the University of Illinois and read by instructors and students of mechanical engineering. The plates are bare line schematics of tanks, pipe runs, valves and air lifts, with dashed water levels, cross-hatched fittings, small flow arrows and italic hand-lettered labels that can be lifted as diagrammatic marks or pipe-and-valve symbols.
