Vanished halls and cathedrals of France
A 1917 travel and architecture survey by the American painter-illustrator George Wharton Edwards, published in London by Skeffington, recording French town halls, cathedrals and streets damaged in the First World War. Drawings in sanguine, grey wash and tinted pencil give gables, turrets, spires and timber-framed façades, with handwritten place captions and signatures usable as texture, borders or architectural spot motifs.
