Vanished halls and cathedrals of France
An illustrated travel and architecture record of French towns damaged in the First World War, written and drawn by the American painter George Wharton Edwards and published in Philadelphia in 1917 for general readers at home. Sanguine and ink sketches show cathedral porches, timbered gables, spires and empty streets, offering loose linework, heraldic panels and silhouettes usable as spot art or textured backgrounds.
