Vasari on technique; being the introduction to the three arts of design, architecture, sculpture and painting, prefixed to the Lives of the most excellent painters, sculptors and architects
An English translation of Giorgio Vasari's 1550 introduction on the techniques of architecture, sculpture and painting, edited by Louisa Maclehose with notes by G. Baldwin Brown and issued by J. M. Dent in London in 1907 for art students and historians. The 36 plates mix halftone photographs of Italian intarsia panels, grotesque wall decoration and excavated fresco fragments with line drawings reconstructing ruined Roman entablatures and inscribed tablets, giving designers ornament motifs, classical architectural detail and heavily textured dark tonal fields.
