Ver, oir, oler, gustar, tocar : empresas que enseñan y persuaden su buen uso, en lo politico y en lo moral
A Spanish emblem book on the five senses by the Jesuit Lorenzo Ortiz, printed in Lyon in 1687 by Anisson, Posuel and Rigaud for readers seeking moral and political instruction from the evidence of sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch. The plates here are typographic ornament rather than emblems: woodcut headbands and tailpieces with flower baskets, a fleur-de-lis flanked by carnations, a horned mask hung with chain swags and winged putti, and a long frieze of scrolling foliage inhabited by hunters and beasts, useful as rules, spot ornaments and border repeats.
