An art-historical dissertation by Sylva Scheglmann on the development of Italian ceiling painting from the fifteenth to the nineteenth century, published at Strassburg by J.H.E. Heitz in 1910 for scholars of mural decoration. The plates are Anderson photographs shot straight up at vaults and cupolas, showing octagonal coffer frames, grotesque borders, medallion heads, and crowded illusionistic skies of tumbling figures and clouds \u2014 usable as radial ornament layouts, frame grids, and worn halftone texture.
