An emblem book of 1628 issued in Paris, with etchings by Jacques Callot presenting the life of the Virgin Mary as a sequence of emblems in Latin and French for devotional readers. The plates are small landscape vignettes in thin etched line: windblown trees, rolling banks, distant towers and spires, a solitary figure or animal, and wide areas of blank paper, useful as spot illustrations, headpieces, and sparse line backgrounds.
