Vigée-Lebrun, 1755-1842 : her life, works, and friendships : with a catalogue raisonné of the artist's pictures
An English-language biography and catalogue raisonné of the French portrait painter Élisabeth Vigée-Lebrun, written by William Henry Helm and published in Boston by Small, Maynard in 1915 for art collectors and general readers. The 46 plates are halftone reproductions of her paintings, mostly half-length portraits of women in plumed straw hats, ruffled muslin gowns and sashes against dark clouded grounds, useful for soft-focus tonal portrait heads, late eighteenth-century dress detail and hair ornament.
