A late seventeenth-century Latin account of the Villa Benedetti in Rome and its architectural inscriptions, compiled by Matteo Mayer with Johannes Petrus Ericus and printed in 1694 under an Augsburg imprint. The pictures here are letterpress ornament: square woodcut initials set in foliage or strapwork and small quadrant tailpieces of mirrored scrollwork, usable as drop caps, spot ornaments and rules.
