Villas and cottages : a series of designs prepared for execution in the United State
A pattern book of house designs by Calvert Vaux, working from his partnership with A. J. Downing and Frederick Clarke Withers, published in New York by Harper & Brothers in 1857 for American clients and builders commissioning country houses. Wood-engraved perspective views show gabled villas with verandas, bracketed eaves and dormers, paired with labeled floor plans and details of porches, doors and bay windows, giving designers line-drawn architectural motifs, plan diagrams and small landscape vignettes.
