Virtutes cardinales ethico emblemate expressae : ad praenob. et generos. dominum D. Franciscum de Kinschot, equitem ordinis S. Iacobi, etc
A Latin emblem book on the four cardinal virtues by Jacques de Cater, printed in 1645 at the Plantin office in Antwerp and dedicated to Franciscus de Kinschot, for a learned courtly readership. The pictures are small woodcut historiated initials in heavy black line, each letter built into a landscape with crowned and robed figures, ships, towers and rayed suns, usable as drop caps, spot ornaments or cut-apart figure silhouettes.
