A Latin life of St John of Nepomuk by the Bohemian Jesuit Bohuslav Balbín, engraved and issued by Johann Andreas Pfeffel at Augsburg in 1730 for Catholic devotional and clerical readers. Each plate sets a scene of confession, canonization or miracle in a shallow architectural stage, flanked by standing saints in niches, with a scripture banner above and a scrolled caption cartouche below, plus small corner medallions and coats of arms usable as frames, borders and label panels.
