Giorgio Vasari's Lives of the most excellent painters, sculptors and architects, reissued in 1767 by Livorno and Florence printers Coltellini, Stecchi and Pagani for readers and collectors of Italian art history. The plates are engraved author portraits: each artist's head in an oval medallion set into an architectural frame with pediment, scrollwork, caryatids and putti holding drawing boards, with a name tablet below — useful for cartouche shapes, frame furniture and hatched profile heads.
