Giorgio Vasari's biographies of Italian painters, sculptors and architects, reissued in 1767 by Livorno and Florence printers for readers and collectors of art history. The plates are engraved portrait medallions, each bust set in an oval within an architectural frame of pediments, scrolled brackets, herm heads, putti and a lettered name tablet, useful for cartouches, frame borders and portrait-in-surround layouts.
