Giorgio Vasari's lives of the Italian painters, sculptors and architects, reissued in 1767 by Livorno and Florence printers for eighteenth-century readers and collectors of artists' biographies. The plates are engraved bust portraits set in oval frames within architectural surrounds—pediments, herms, scrollwork, reclining allegorical figures and putti holding drawing boards—with each sitter's name lettered on a tablet below.
