Guglielmo Della Valle's annotated edition of Giorgio Vasari's lives of the Italian painters, sculptors and architects, printed at Siena in 1791 by Pazzini Carli for artists, collectors and antiquarian readers. Each life opens with an engraved bust portrait in an oval frame lettered with the sitter's name, propped on a plinth and flanked by herms, winged cherubs, swags and hanging palettes, brushes, compasses and set squares.
