Giorgio Vasari's lives of Italian painters, sculptors and architects, reissued in Siena in 1791 by the Pazzini Carli press with Guglielmo Della Valle's annotations, for antiquarians and artists. Each life opens with an engraved profile portrait in an oval frame set on a stone plinth, surrounded by palettes, brushes, compasses, set squares, laurel wreaths, putto heads and cartouches.
