Vrbis Romae aedificiorvm illvstrivmqvae svpersvnt reliqviae
A set of 53 engraved views of surviving ancient Roman buildings, drawn by Giovanni Antonio Dosio and cut by Giovanni Battista Cavalieri, published in Florence in 1569 for antiquarians, architects and collectors of Roman antiquities. The plates are open-line etchings of temple fronts, vaulted baths, arches and brick cores set in bare landscapes, each carrying a numbered Latin caption in the sky, giving designers columns, coffered vaults, rubble masonry and small staffage figures as cut-out elements.
