A German self-instruction manual on washing, bleaching, ironing and needlework, written by Johann Friedrich Netto and published by Voss in Leipzig in 1796 for women doing this work at home. The plates are numbered outline engravings of embroidery patterns: repeating floral borders, scrolling stems with berries and serrated leaves, small sprigs and butterflies, with stippled shading marking areas to be filled in stitch.
